Why has the standard of education fallen so low in Britain?

The young people of today don't seem to have been educated at all. How are they going to manage in later life if they can't make themselves understood now? Is it deliberate government policy to under educate children today? The Labour governments of the past made it a priority to educate the masses.
I'm not picking on the current Labour government. I'm blaming all governments from the advent of the B*tch from hell Maggie Thatcher to the present day. The rot set in with the Tory government and has gone down hill ever since as the Labour government has done nothing to stop the rot. It's ok saying that there are so many more teachers and so many more staff support personnel but what are they doing? Nothing as far as I can see. It surely can't cost much to teach basic english and grammar and spelling. We were made to learn. There was no such thing as I don't want to learn so I'm not going to.
