| In linguistic anthropology, what is/are language ideologies and representation?
I have to write a paper on language ideologies and representation. We must select some from some source of media (magazine, dvd, etc), an example of language ideology(ies) and examine the accompanying representation. Or we can identify a representation of something and consider the associated or underlying language ideologies.
The problem is I dont really understand what a language ideology is or what is meant by representation. The only i know is that language ideologies are beliefs about languages (ie souther accent = dumb).
If i were to write my paper about the stand up of George Lopez, would I then be writing why what he's saying is funny to the audience. What would be some language ideologies in this case and whats the representation.
