Whether admitted or not, the race, religion, gender, sexual preference and other things are all factors in a person's akeup. Some I think are important enough to influence a persons actions concerning situations that should not be affected by the decider's past exposure to various philosophies.
Skin color or race for example is not a factor in itself; however, actions taken due to past influences in the individuals life may be detrimental to a rationally conceived solution to the situation at hand. Religion falls into the same category.
If a person is running for public office, his past and his beliefs should be made public.
Being an atheist myself, I could not expect to be elected to any public office.
