Prices differ from location, quality, and size of vehicle. You can expect to pay about $1500.00-$2500.00 USD to change the color with a decent shop.
It is good you realize that changing a car's color cost more than it would to repaint a car.
EDIT:
Wow, I came back to see what other suggested and someone suggested 400-600 dollars. That is ridiculously low. I minimum I've ever paid for a basic paint job of decent quality way like 700-750. That was for just a repaint of the original color and nothing special!
