“Contemporary” means that art is not associated with any particular past movement or school of thought. It dates from the early 1960’s, which saw the end of the Modern Art movement, Contemporary Art and also sculpture focusses in many instances on political or social themes. The materials used are very varied. Sculpture usually means a collection of mixed media objects or materials - known as a sculptural installation which can include photos, videos and texts.
Here are a few very important contemporary sculptors: Alice Aycock, Jonathan Borofsky, Louise Bourgeois, Deborah Butterfield. Dale Chihuly (glass sculptor) Jim Dine, Claes Oldenburg . Dennis Oppenheim ,Julian Schnabel ,George Segal. If you type in their names individually you will get a lot of material and photos of their work.
