I have a masters. I think that academic qualifications are less important than the ability to employ critical thought. All academic qualifications really say is that you are good at passing exams and can work well in academia. It isn't really a sound judge of intelligence.
The ability to think things through, have a thirst for knowledge and come to your own conclusion based on what you see and are told is, I think, a more important skill and something that is more mentally stimulating in a partner than having loads of letters after their name.
