Preparation: Buy a corsage (they're the flowers on the wrist) at a florist. Make a reservation at a restaurant if you need to. Rent/buy a tuxedo if you don't already have one. Rent a limo or make sure that you have some kind of transportation. You don't necessarily need a limo, get what you can afford!! Make some plans with friends if you're going to go with a group.
Let's start at the beginning of the night:
You'll first need to get dressed and ready.
Then, pick up your date at her house and you'll exchange the boutiniere and corsage (she gives you the boutiniere). You'll probably take a bunch of pictures and then you'll leave.
I think people usually go to dinner first. After dinner go to the prom and just hang out..have fun. Afterwards, if you want, there will probably be after parties or something. Or you could take your date somewhere or take her home. After you do whatever take her home.
Don't forget to be a gentleman. Open up doors, pull out her seat at dinner, be nice to her, compliment her outfit when you see her, etc.
