Go to duotrope.com and use the search engine there to find magazines that are currently accepting poetry submissions!

Persiphone - he was only asking for magazine markets, not to publish a collection in book form. Your advice is great about avoiding scams, being wary of friends' opinions, etc. - but there ARE markets out there for good poetry. They don't pay well, but few magazine markets do whether it's for short fiction or poetry. If he just wants to see his work in print, magazines are the way to go. It's unusual for ANY writer to make a sole living off of his writing, whether it's fiction, nonfiction, or poetry.

Although, I do agree that a person who has been writing poetry for not quite a year is probably not skilled or educated enough yet to get any work published right now.
