USA relied heavily on trade with Europe in the early 1900s to keep its economy on its feet. Unfortunately, the German U-Boat Submarines sank many of the cargo ships carrying trade goods.
This made it more and more difficult for the USA to trade with Europe, thus making it more likely for them to step in and fight the Germans.
