Wouldn't it be wiser to become a fermentation microbiologist if you are passionate about biofuels, since they are the ones that actually make them, and study utlizing livining organisms to produce them?
BTW the answer to every problem isn't as easy as you suggest, nor is it very logical to think the problems should be ignored because you aren't working in the field.
hmmmm none of the chemical engineers i have known ever work on mechanical aspects of science.
They engineer chemicals from other chemicals. While studying the way the chemicals will behave.
