| Eris was the Greek goddess of discord or chaos. She wasn't "evil", necessarily, just...chaotic. The apple you're referring to is a golden apple that she presented to the other gods as a prank. It was inscribed with "For the Most Beautiful", or something along those lines — but of course, each of the goddesses thought she was the most beautiful. Thus, chaos.
