| Yes; I'm afraid we are. My calculations have it that Hillary will win the popular vote when it's all said and done by less than .01% of the total votes cast. Obama will still have the lead in pledged delegates and the vast majority of states won. It will be a 50-50 election. Then they will either have to do the 'dream team/joint ticket' thing (And if Hillary is leading in the popular vote, You can bet she will not accept less than the #1 spot) or else there will be very hard feelings all around. Having the superdelegates decide such a situation will be devastating to November hopes no matter which candidate they choose. It's too bad Michigan can't have a revote because it was not fair that Obama's name was not on the ballot and it MIGHT (only might) resolve the popular vote situation. But all things being what they are, I have to admit I'm becoming quite concerned about both party unity and how moderates around the country will perceive this train wreck. The thought of blowing what should have been a sure election and suffering through another 4 years of a GOP White House because of all this is what is truly terrifying me... |
