| Card and Krueger in 1995 used federal minimum wage increase (of 1992) and looked at it's effects on fast food employment in New Jersey and other states.... they found little to no effect in employment levels which was counter to the standard model.
Their findings (data) were challenged by other economists which led to other studies to rebut the challenges...
Basically it is a hot topic with a lot of journaled articles that can be compared.
Personally I think that the present evidence does show that a moderate increase in the minimum wage makes very little to no change in the amount of employment in those low wage sectors.
