Basically George asks Lenny to do his homework for him, and thus becomes the blunt-witted character he is. He soon feels lonely in his ineptitude, and regrets ever having had people think for him. He then remarks that he's glad there is hope out there, as kids today don't actively become imbeciles by outsourcing their homework.
It's a great read, as I'm sure you know.
