Sort of on the fly: one reason why its harder to build a model for future is that data for model parameters are not as readily available for the future than for the past, for obvious reasons.
Think of GDP output, inflation, unemployment, currency exchange rates, various business indicators that are based on performance, all these would have to be estimated for a future model.
