is the coast guard a branch of the navy?
The Coast Guard was part of the Department of Transportation, but now is part of the Department of Homeland Security. The Navy, Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps are part of the Department of Defense.Despite the common misconception, the Marine Corps is not part of the Navy; both the Navy and the Marine Corps are part of the Department of the Navy, but are separate branches.
