Is it right etiquette to request uneaten food, which you ordered in restaurant, to be packed and taken home?

It's perfectly fine. We privately refer to them as doggie bags at home, don't we? Simply ask for a container(s) for the remaining food so that you may take it home with you. All restaurants that I'm aware of are happy to do so, as they hate to see food go to waste as much as anyone. Enjoy! Oh, and the two friends who didn't notify the rest of you about their impending absences are the ones being incorrect here. As far as I can tell, they owe the rest of you a free meal the next go-round.
