| Canon EOS 40D: How do I enable Auto Focus in Live View?
40D does not Auto Focus in Live View, you can only manual focus. If you set Custom Function III-6 to 1. Enable, now if you press the AF button it will turn off Live View, Autofocus, and then Turn Live View back on when focus is achieved. This is the closest you can come to autofocus when using live view. You can only select all Nine and then it selects the best points or you can select 1. It's very good that you want to focus on the subjects eyes when shooting portraits. But you don't need two focus points to do that. For example, set it for only the center focus point. Point your camera at one of the person's eyes and press your shutter button down halfway. This will lock the focus. Now you can recompose your shot while keeping the shutter button pressed halfway. Finish pressing it down. Both eyes should be in focus unless you are using a really shallow depth of field.
