I'd agree with your family. You've known him for about a year and a half. How long are you going to be studying in Spain? If it's another few years, go for it -- but only if you have the same feelings. There are many ways you could make the relationship work out if it was meant to be. Follow your heart. If you don't experience anything, you'll never be able to grow and learn.
