What do I do my dog has developed allergies, How can I figure out what she is allergic to?

Of course you want to take your doctors advice into consideration. He/She must think the allergy is not food related. However, sometimes you need to take your dogs health into your own hands and vets, like doctors, don't know everything. To discover the root of a food allergy, you need to switch your pups diet completely. You should find a food with an entirely new protein source and eliminate grains. For example, if she is on a Turkey and Chicken food and has beef or lamb in the past, these are out. Find a food with only venison or fish ,etc. (Dogs can develop an allergy to a protein source if that is all they get for a long time so once you find out what is bothering her- avoid it, but also rotate different, safe proteins about 3 times a year.) I also recommend eliminating grains for the time being as they are often the cause of allergies as well. Switch veeeeery slowly to the new food (spread it about over a week or two) to avoid digestive upset and then stay with it for at least 8 weeks. All of her food must be from this same protein source and that includes treats. Then after the symptoms have stopped you can slowly reintroduce her to the old proteins (and grains if you want) and see what causes the old symptoms. When something triggers her, you know that is the culprit and to avoid it.Good luck!
