How much would my friend have to pay in total support if he gets divorced (in...

...CALIFORNIA)? My friend is about to go through a divorce. We have similar situations in that our marriages were short and there is a child involved. The major difference is that his wife doesn't work.

They have been married for 2 years. They have a 1 year old son. He makes $63k a year. Child care is $1000/mo and they are renters. His wife worked prior to the marriage, but not professionally. Now she is a full-time student.

I am aware that he would only be required to pay spousal support for half the term of the marriage (1 yr) and most likely he'll have to pay 50% of child care.

How is his child support (assuming 20% visitation) and spousal support determined? What is he liable for?

He's trying to figure out how much he can afford in rent when he moves.
