| Is what the Navy recruiter told me true?
Nope - this is not true. While joining the Navy might be a wee bit safer than joining the Army or the Marine Corps, all the branches of the military are being utilized in the war on terror. The Navy is being scrutinized pretty heavily because of the fact that, outside of SEALS, Seabees and Corpsmen, they really have contributed very little to the war in Iraq or Afghanistan. This causes their rather generous budget dollars to risk being shifted to other branches. Make a long story short, anyone in any job in any branch of the military can be sent wherever they need you. That's the basic premise of being in the military. There's ways to avoid going for a short while, but eventually you may be handed a set of orders to go. However, if you don't ever want to have to go to war, why join the military? Kind of a strange dichotomy.
