| First of all, take the class from Eagle Medical Center. They're so much more informative and their class is meant for kids and teens who want to babysit. They will teach you CPR, (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) the heimlech maneuver, as well as basic first aid. You might also learn how to use an epi pen for allergies on younger kids. This class will give you ways to be good with kids, have the kids love you, and how to talk to neighbors and family. I have a business card that I give to parents at my church with kids that know me and I like to be around. I recommend church and other large gatherings of people that you know and that know you so that people can recommend you to others in the same place. For my family, I just said, "I'm certified in CPR now, would you like me to sub for your other babysitter" or "I'm certified in all medical skills for babysitting, would you like to go out one night and have me babysit?" I also do "Mommy's helper" things where if the mom or dad has a home business and can't watch the kids, I go over to the house and entertain the kids. Even though you wouldn't be alone, it's a great way to do it the first time for each family so the kid or kids can get to know you with their mom or dad around and if you have any questions there right there for you to ask. You can take the class at most hospitals, children's hospitals (where I went the first time), and even libraries. (where I went to renew a second time) Only go to families you know and that the kids kind of know you and you know them as well as someone who lives within about 15 minutes of your house. |
