| I don't find it necessary to exude a certain level of happiness to appear polite... There is just a certain set of unwritten rules members of society are expected to obey. I agree with you that a complete stranger that appears overly excited to wait on you (i.e your grocery store checkout clerk or waitress) emits a certain level of fakeness, but who is it hurting to be friendly? It serves more of a purpose to smile at someone and tell them to have a nice day than to scowl at them.
Nothing wrong with just being "mediocre" either. As long as you're polite, thats all that matters. |
