| why there is the shift from subsistance to commercial agriculture in india?
Main reason for this is increased area of irrigation. commercial agriculture, say cultivation of grapes, is cost intensive. Unless there is assured irriagtion there will be high risk involved in growing commercial crops. Now irrigation has helped minimze this risk.The other reason is wants have increased. Farmers now need good clothes, T.V., refregerator, two wheeler vehicle and farmers have to establish one more house in near by suburban/urban place for education of children. This all needs money and hence to earn more, there is a shift from subsistence farming to commercial farming is inevitable. |
