cars (social freedom) and drive-in movies- remember Danny and Sandy in Grease? motorcycles (Fonzie) cleaned-up image in contrast to Hell's Angels.not just GM, but all kinds of manufacturing were booming--the cotton mills, ready-made clothing, etc, convenience foods were coming onto the scene, (Betty Crocker, Aunt Jemima, General Mills cereals) frozen foods (Birdseye, Swanson TV dinners), air conditioning. it seemed like there was a new invention or convenience every week, just being made for us Americans--maybe that's where that sense of entitlement got it's start. not to mention the innovations in medicine, disease-prevention, diagnosing and treatments
