Pros or Cons on joining the Air Force?

My son will be 17, and able to graduate early from high school in Jan-09, does he have to be 18 to inlist. I can see alot of postives and really proud of him for seriously thinking about joining the military during a time of war. But want to hear other peoples experiences postive or negative, so he knows exactly what he is getting into.
