| Getting into shape for the Air Force's BMT? I have decided to enlist in the Air Force because I want to experience other things besides my hometown, grow up, and lack of college money. I have never been in that great of shape and have always been considered the twig in my circle of friends. I am 5'6" and weigh 137 pounds. Over the past few days I have ran/walked 2 miles and have been doing push-ups and sit ups. I can only do about 15 push ups before I have to stop and eventually I have to get to be able to do 45 in a minute and run 1.5 miles in 11:57. I think that I am going to join a gym tomorrow because I think that this will get me into shape faster. I have atleast 5 months before I leave, but I am kinda worried that I wont be able to do the physical part. The book work comes easy to me (got an 86 on a practice ASVAB test that my recruiter had me take). This is the first time I worked out in a while, so I expect to see unsatisfactory results at first, but do you think that I can make it and do you have any suggestions? |

| I'm not a strength guy but I do know a bit about endurance. You need to get a nice schedule going for that. For example: Mon.: Easy distance, try 5 miles, keep your heart rate up but don't push Tue.: Intervals, I would try time, warm up then run race pace 30 sec rest (easy pace running) 1 min, then race pace 60 sec rest 1min 30 sec, each one add thirty sec if you can get to two mins race pace, work back down the ladder Wed.: Pick-ups, run about three miles, every min run a bit up your tempo for about twenty seconds then back down to a more comfortable pace, you should push a little but not race pace Thur.: Off Fri.: Fun is on Friday, so hills, find a nice hill sprint up and jog back down, do three or four sets of three or four, after every set jog around for a minute or two to get your heart rate back down Sat.: I would do pick-ups or distance, your choice Sun.: Off something like that |
