Can i be a USAF officer? I have a 2.99 GPA and the minimum is 3.0. In about a month I will be graduating with a B.A. in Sociology and a Minor in Spanish. What are my chances of being excepted into the OTC program? Should I enlist (i'll only be an e-3 and have to stay in a year before i can apply to be an officer)? Also, do you know of the process and any other branch better?

The Air Force is having a reduction in force, cutting about 40,000 people. That includes some cuts to the officer corp. So right now, your chances are not as good as in the past due to the RIF situation. They can afford to be very picky about who they take in as a result. If they match you up against someone with a hard BS degree in engineering or science, you will lose. Also, having a minor in Spanish is not going to do squat for you. They have tons of native Spanish speakers in the service and your minor is a "so what" kind of asset. If you had a minor in Arabic, Chinese or Russian, things would be quite different. If you really want to join the military, your best bet right now would be the US Army as they are increasing in size and are looking for more people and are not so picky.

call the recruiter and talk to him i wouldn't think you would have to go in as E3 man go into it as officer and go for it they make good money. i know you can go in as nco and then get your self an officer by going to classes and school but you have done this. take care.

You can be an officer. You can apply before you are done with school. Join the ROTC program or you can even start officer training and they'll pay for it. You only start as an E-3 if you have an AA only. You'll start higher I gaurantee it, somebody lied to you.

i suggest you stay in college and raise your grades....wait for a bit... don't enlist as an enlisted.....once they got you it will only get harder and harder to go officer..... they will use your performance....limited openings and low scores against you........ if you decide you believe the recruiter and don't listen to me.....reread this in a year and remember this phrase....."I TOLD YOU SO" again do not go in until you qualify with no restrictions or waivers... washing out is not for the faint of heart.... it will mean the difference between scrubbing toilets and getting a piddly paycheck....vs being in charge of a bunch of toilet cleaners and getting a larger pay check for the risk of your life in war.....

Here's what I would do it if it were me knowing what I know what I know now: I'd find the nearest AFROTC detachment and join up...you can pursue another bachelor's, possibly drag out the one you have, or pursue your masters. They have a UAO (unit admissions officer) who is there to help you figure you which is the best way to do for your circumstances. We commission 98% of our graduates...you pretty much have to commit a felony not to graduate.
