The only way you'll go to Iraq in the USCG is if ur in the reserves. They're the only ones that get sent. About the job u'll have, they have law enforcement in the Coast Guard but it depends on what u score on ur ASVAB test. I'm about to take the ASVAB to join the USCG and do search and rescue but i have to score well enough to get an opportunity in that rate. In the Coast Guard u'll spend 2 months in basic (8 weeks) then go to a duty station til u can go to ur "A" school. Their age limit is 25 and there enlistment contarct is 8 years. 4 on active duty and 4 on reserve but in some cases they offer 2, 4, and 6 year contracts but the best thing to do is talk to a recruiter.

Go find a local charity and donate time to them if you want to give back. Give back to your local community, going to Iraq isn't a bad thing but right now we need to give more at home. Contact a local church or red cross.

whatever your not going to join any branch of the service who are you kidding. give back to the US, what did you take from the US? that is a liberal guilty make me feel better ploy, you have nothing to give back to this country. i give everyday to this country, and have since i started working at 14 years of age. i feel no guilt over the money that i make, and the things i have if the family down the block don't make as much as me i don't care they have the same opportunities as i have.

First of all the recruiter does not determine military policy nor US foreign policy so you are smart for not believing all. But most of what he or she says is correct. Must do at least 48 months. The Occupational Skills in all branches are determined on your ASVAB score. Take the Exam and insist on the skill program that you would enjoy. Two key words insist and enjoy. OK now with that in mind, say for instance you love to work on vehicles and you score high on the mechanical portion of the ASVAB and there is a opening in that field's school. You are in, now this job will not be like your local hot rod shop, it will be crowded and you want to rebuild an engine and they have you changing tires and oil. Not for four years but like any job you must prove yourself to be given more responsibility. So find a skill that suits your personality and your likes. Remember when it is time for you to choose a "job" the two words are insist and enjoy. I hope that helps a bit.
I loved the military, I had a freakin blast for 21 years.
