| Which is better, Air National Guard or Army National Guard?
I want to do one of the two, but if i join the Army National Guard, theres a big chance that i could be sent over. Could happen with the Air National Guard too, but i wouldn't be on the front lines with the ANG.

dude let me tell you this much, there is a chance that you will get deployed no matter what chance you get and if thats all your worried about is not getting deployed then do yourself a favor and dont even join...anyway which branch you want to join all depends on what kind of job that you want to do.. obvioulsy if you want something to do more with airplanes and things like that ur going to go air guard, but just about anything else you can find in the army guard.. your chances of getting deployed all depend on your job because obvioulsy if you go infantry there is more of a chance of getting deployed over like an x-ray tech. i would suggest you first figure out what kind of job you want to do and then talk to the recruiters and really think about it because everybody has a chance of getting deployed and you have to figure out of you can handle that risk

check and see which one has the bigger sign on bonus, you could do what i did, joined the regular army, i'm safely states-side - haven't you noticed it's the national guard & reserves that get sent more then the regular military?

The deployment chances are the same with both. The difference is the Army deploys for 12-15 months straight, which the AF deploys for 60days-6mos. The Army gives you at least three years off btwn those deployments in most cases, while the AF will give you 2-12 months. A year away from home sucks for sure, but most people find one long deployment less disruptive to their lives than multiple shorter ones over the same span. Overall you can expect to spend roughly the same amount of time deployed either way. And don't believe for a second that you won't be on the front lines. ANG personnel are running convoys & all sorts of other crap. While plenty of ARNG personnel never leave their base. It has a lot more to do with your job than what service you are in. Those are things you need to think about, but they shouldn't be the top of your list. The quality of life is basically the same on the guard level. The bonuses & benefits are very different. The Army needs people, while the AF is turning people away. So, the Army has big bonuses & excellent educational benefits, while the AF has a tiny fraction of that. The Army is a little harder though. The training is a bit more physical, and the PT test you have to take each year is a little harder. On the whole, you need to look at what job you want to get & why. Then look at what jobs are available with ANG & ARNG units in your area. You're going to be a lot happier making the right decision on that point. Do your research & make the decision that's right for you. msg me if you need some more help. |
