Tyndall Air Force Base?

Has anyone ever been stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base? Or know someone who has. How did you like it? How close was it to the beach? Is there any surfing nearby?

We were there for 3 1/2 years. Its a really nice area, but it takes forever to get anywhere. The on base housing is nice, and being Florida, the off base housing options are crazy expensive. If you want a Wal-Mart, its about 15 minutes away. The mall is 30 minutes, as well as the shopping and restaurants. PCB (Panama City Beach) is 45-60 minutes away and is crazy. For March and April. I'd not go down there for a million bucks and its pretty crowded during the summer too. Its really nice in the off-season. On base there is a marina and several beaches, although I've never seen anyone surfing down there. The base has the standard BX, Commissary, auto hobby, arts and crafts, bank, etc. If you move there, expect to get the hurricane warnings alot and have to pretty much keep a few things packed during the summer months. We never had one hit while we lived there, but it would rain like crazy when they'd get close. Overall its a nice quiet place to live, with plenty to do not too far away. We lived in base housing and were 3 blocks from the beach.

haha airforce people make me laugh, you are more worried about if your base is stationed by the beach rather than the war/s going on.. thats how you know you guys are different from the rest of us.. lol

i hear it's about 12 miles east of Panama City, Florida. It is home to 1st Air Force; Southeast Air Defense Sector; 475th Weapons Evaluation Group; and 325th Fighter Wing. But blaster is right, you shouldn't be worried if it's near the beach or not, there will be plenty of other things to worry about!
