Why is tourettes disqualifying in the Air Force?

There really is no reason to completely isolate a group of people based on a bias opinion that everyone with tourettes has the same case. Its stupid to say that everyone with it are a danger to people. Its like me saying that all white people are racist or something to that nature.

umm it is a medical condition that could put you and other in harms way, we cant win a war with healthy people, i wouldnt want to see it if they eased the entrance requirements, i have been type one diabetic for a long time and people with diseases of almost any type shouldnt fight they are just a hinderance

I can understand your fustration. However that is not the only disease that is considered an automatic DQ there are a vast many diseases that are considered auto DQ. I think even STD's are a auto DQ if you try to join with them (different story if you aquire one while in) Its not just that one disease the military is picky.

the same reason they don't want homosexuals in the military it's distracts from the mission.

I personally don't believe that but that's the military rules.

However, there are waivers for everything. But with the way the air force is force shaping(down sizing) I don't think they'll be granting many waivers.

Edit: If you've never been in a war so. You have know idea how you will "tick". If could be the diff between life and death. Then your fam would try to sue the AF for sending you over there. One more thing. Right now the AF is putting out anyone who is non-deployable. They're tryin to make a meaner leaner air force :-)

First off, you don't want to join the air force. Go to school and do something not productive with your life. You don't want to be that kid in formation who spouts off at times or has obvious nervous ticks.

Because Tourettes people deserve basic rights for their disability, and shouldn't be drummed up to kill because there is a war. We should respect disability, not use the disabled to do our killing.

Social dynamics...you wouldn't want to be in a military unit with a condition that made you stand out in a dramatic way.
