Wa-ya Wik has a spectacular aura about
Navy job for prior Airman w/ family?

my husband is joining the Navy (paperwork in progress). hes prior Air Force and would love to go back but w/ all the cuts they wont take him..so were looking at the Navy instead.
anyways, were a family of 5 (3 of them are kids) and he would like to spend as much time at home as possible. yes i know he will have to go on ship and rotate n all that. the Navy told him to be a SeaBee,would this be a wise choice? if not which jobs would be the best for a family man? he is also looking to be a lifer and retire from the military.

while any of the CB ratings do NOT have sea duty, he will deploy frequently as one. we are taking several minimum 6 month deployments per duty station. he could be home mere weeks between deployments.

what ladypete above is referring to is FTS: Full time Support. basically you are a Reservist who works full time at a reserve unit. you can and WILL still be deployed as FTS,most likely as an IA. .

When you go to sign up for the Navy the first thing that comes out of their mouth is "SeaBee." My husband choose to be an Airman but his friend does this thing I forgot what it's called but he's Reserve but he gets the same pay and benefits as an Active duty sailor. When I get more information I'll let you know. But you barely go overseas and on a ship.
