Jean B has a spectacular aura about
I'm getting married to an Airman, when can we live together?

He is currently in Tech school and comes home for 10 days after. We have plans to get married but we aren't sure when we will be able to. I have heard little things here and there about him not being able to move off base once hes stationed, or being able to live on base together even if we were married, for a little while. What should I expect, how did it work out for you? Would it be a bad idea to elope once he gets his 10 day leave for home? Or should we just wait? Even if we waited, what are the chances that we could just live together off base? I want to be with him ASAP and not knowing is probably the hardest part.
Thanks for the answers so far... I have another one... if we did get married, would it be a headache to do it before he goes to his station after tech... during his leave? I heard there is a lot of crap about paperwork that could possibly delay him getting stationed.

If you are married you can live together off base or on base if his rank and time at the base qualifies you for base housing. In addition you will receive a dependent's ID card, which will give you base access for shopping, club activities and the whole range of morale, welfare and recreational activities. Plus, you will have medical insurance under Tri-Care and medical care at the base hospital under the Uniformed Services Health Benefits Program.
In short, cohabitation without benefit of marriage is depriving both of you of important benefits and perks.

um first off you just go off and elope because he joined the military then you are stupid and thats why the military has such a high divorce rate its because highschool sweethearts decide to get married and then they get a taste of real freedom and go nuts, if you really love this guy and he loves you then there is no need to rush anything. you will be able to live together on or off base if you are married but most likely you cant if you arent married but dont make that the deciding factor

After tech school, if you two are married you can live on base together if there's married housing available. If not they'll give you money in addition to his base pay to cover rent for living off base (known as BAH pay).

If unmarried, he'll be a single airman. As such, if there are single airman quarters (dorms) available, he'll be required to live on base for a period of 3 years, unless and until he gets a valid waiver to live off base, gets married and therefore qualifies for married housing status, or otherwise. After that three years, you're TECHNICALLY not to live together with a girlfriend (the UCMJ still bans "fornication"), but almost no commanders ever enforce that policy, as there's no way to tell without invasion of a person's private life.
