I WANT TO FLY! -Air force, rotc-?

I'm a freshmen in High School, and it is my DREAM to go into the air force, and become a pilot.
I've been thinking about it for years (I think things through and plan ahead) and after all my research, isn't the best way for that to happen if I get into the US Air Force Academy?

And the nearest rotc program is roughly 40 miles away. All I know about rotc is that it teaches you drills, and gives you information on what to expect in the military.

Is it some kind of extra-curricular activity for students?
How often would I have to go?
Does it look good on an application to USAFA? If it takes place after school, I don't care how far it is, I could always drive there or take a bus.

I know that you have to get excellent grades to get into AF. I basically have to excell in everything, and get involved in programs at school.
I'll be taking Honors English, Algebra Concepts (the highest possible honors class), regular physical science

Do you think I'll make it? Any suggestions?
