Navy missile hits spy satellite?

so this missile,
was it something special? did they modify the missile?
or can a regular missile hit stuff in outer space?

It was a "task" designed missile that sole "task" is to hit stationary targets in a low earth orbit! Did its "task" perfectly too didnt it!

It was a standard missile that had its programming changed to hit a different type of target. There were no physical modifications made to the missile.

They "modified" the missile to hit a cold object instead of a heat sensing object. I think it was special in that it hit the object during its downward spiral (sort of like hitting an incoming coming from outer space)
