Cell Phones at Air Force Basic Military Training (USAF BMT)?

If I bring my cell phone to BMT, will it get damaged? I am aware that I will not be able to keep it with me, but I was hoping it could be put away with all my other personal belongings so when they are returned to me at the end of week 6, I could call my wife. Would there be an issue if I had it (along with a charger) in my coat pocket when I got there? I’ve heard people (Army & USMC) say that their Drill Sergeants ripped through their stuff and broke things… is this true in the Air Force as well?

i would leave the cell phone at home. my Marines recruiter said they will throw it away and to just leave it at home.
