Vision issue for Air Force?

I'm trying to get the AF Health Professions Scholarship (the one for medical school). I just 'completed' my physical today. I have not been approved for just ONE reason: my vision is horrible! The cut-off for refraction is -8, but mine is -9.25 and -9.75. The doctor just looked at the numbers and said that she should disqualify me, but won't yet. I spoke with the vision lady who said they're just concerned about cataracts (which I don't have, so that's no concern). I spoke with the Sgt. in charge and he said Lasik might be an option. The next step is to consult with the ophthalmologist, but I have difficulty getting out there and missing work. I'm just wondering if anyone besides the military people from today and my recruiter can tell me some honest chances of me being deemed qualified (I doubt the ophth. consult will yield smaller numbers and the Dr seems to just look at those) or getting a waiver. My deadline is in 3 weeks, and need to pass my physical by then. My corrected is 20/20
