people really steal in the navy!? hard to believe?

I have been browsing through other peoples questions and one thing keeps recurring, if you bring somethign expensive to A school or on a ship like a laptop or something, it's going to get stolen.

is this really a bad problem, like is my laptop going to get stolen if it's not locked up?

one of the reasons i wanted to join the navy is i felt that i would be around people with a higher level of integrity than the average person!
