| I am joining the navy reserve after being active. Will i still receive full
gi bill benefits and tuition asst -Active duty Navy 2002-06 -17 months of GI bill benefits left at 1563 monthly (had the kicker and Navy college fund) -I'm going to continue going to college while in the reserves. The recruiter says my current gi bill benefits won't be reduced while i'm in the reserves and I believe that. But will I receive any tuition assistance? or any other benefits in that regard while in the reserves. I know i get another 12 months added to my gi bill(granted not at the current rate i have tho). Yes, like i said I'm receiving $1563 monthly and am currently enrolled at a 4 year university. I have 17 months left of GI Bill benefits. I was wondering if the reserve would pay any additional amount to my tuition. Thus enabling me to use the GI Bill benefits on cost of living expenses. Well I found out today the Navy reserve has suspended its tuition assistance program due to lack of funds. So all I'll maintain is my current gi bill benefits. |

The best person to talk to is a VA rep. at any college nearby. They know all the numbers and will direct you to the VA office if you need more info. Depending on where you go, most, if not all, of you tuition should get paid for through your G.I. Bill. Remember, you do have a responsibility of confirming every month with the VA office that you are still enrolled. Money is directly deposited to your account every month, vice a lump sum for your yearly tuition, so remember to save it throughout the year. With your kicker you should get at least $1500/month.

Reserves get different levels of TA if indeed you are eligible. you would need to speak to Personnel/Education Office at the Reserves Base. Besides, not sure you can double dip..get both GI Bill and TA at the same time. |
