| I am going active duty Navy, when will I know where I will be stationed?
I am in the naval reserve at the moment and I am trying to go active duty navy. The active recruiter told me that I will have to go to a 2 week "refresher boot camp", choose my job and duty station, then go to school. The reserve recruiter says that I have to do the 2 week thing, go to my 3 month school, and THEN get my duty station. I thought you choose your duty station upon contract signing, which is even before the 2 week thing. Any experts on this subject?

No you'll get orders out of school. They can't assign you a job untill you graduate from school, they aren't going to assign you to some command to fill a billet for a qualified position and then you fail in school, that would either stick some command with a body they really don't need or make them start recutting orders. When you graduate you will be a qualified 'XXX' rate, and you'll receive orders to fill a billet in that field. then on those orders you will probably go temporarily to another school, specific to the equipment you will actually be working on and from there report to the Command you were assigned.

you will find out where you are going sometime during A school. usually within 30 days of finishing up. there is no way to get duty station in the contract. the Navy will not know what open billets they have until you are closer to finishing A school, plus there is always the possibility of you not graduating on time or at all. |
