Zero chance. There are no lateral transfers. You will have to be released from your Army National Guard enlistment first. Then enlist in the Air Force National Guard. The chances of the Army National Guard releasing you from your enlistment contract early, are slim to none. But the only way to find out, is to ask your Unit.

with only this little bit of knowledge about you i can not give you a good answer accept to tell you that if your service in the Army national guard has been good and you have an asvab score of at least 50 then your odds are pretty good. if you have less than a 50 on your asvab and/or you have a less than favorable action on your record then the odds are not very good at all. hope this helps you.

Is your current MOS going to transfer over as an AFSC in an area ANG unit? Do you have the ASVAB line scores to qualify for that AFSC? Does the ANG unit in question have an open slot in that AFSC? Is your record of service such that the ANG will take you? Did you get a bonus when you came in the ARNG? Have you served two years in the at MOS since completing AIT? Is it currently a critical or shortage MOS in your state or the wider national guard/Army? Is there an even remote chance your unit will be deploying in the next 18 months? Talk to your 1SG. If your chain of command is supportive then you might be able to get it done. The ANG will have to set it up for you & you'll need a 368 (conditional release). What that's going to do is void out your ARNG contract at the same time as your new ANG contract is taking effect. I gotta ask you though, you just don't like your current unit, you've "heard good things" about the ANG, and that's it? Do you really know what you're getting into anymore than you did when you came in the guard? Maybe you're just in a bad unit. The active duty AF is great quality of life versus the Army, but at the guard level it's the same. In fact the benefits are better on the ARNG side. If you really want to switch over, that's fine, I hope you can get it done. In all honesty though you should have done your research and figured that out in the first place. I don't want you now to make the same mistake in jumping into this without doing your homework first. |
