Breastfeeding allergies? Please help me!! My 3 month old baby started sneezing and coughing once in a while, she hasnt had fever or anything, and she's not even fussy, but at nights I can hear that she has a congestion. I started having the same symptoms yesterday, my throat hurts like hell and I have a runny nose. I dont think its flu because I got a flu shot at the hospital when she was born. Do you think it's allergies? If I'm breastfeeding I'm I affecting her? I dont want to stop breastfeeding!! What can I do? What can I take? Since she hasnt had fever and she's not fussy I havent taken her to pediatrician, should I take her? It has been very windy here, my mom says its because of the pollen... So many questions!! I would appreciate your help. Thanks!!

Just sounds like a common cold, the best thing you can do is to continue to breastfeed her through it. --- Can I breastfeed my baby if I am sick? Mothers have breastfed their babies through a variety of illnesses, from colds and infections to chronic conditions including asthma and diabetes. Your baby is exposed to any illness you have before you know you are sick. One of the beauties of human milk is that when your body makes antibodies to combat an illness, these antibodies are passed directly into your milk, giving protection and disease-fighting abilities to your baby, too. http://www.llli.org/FAQ/sick.html

I second McMom's answer. And just to add, a baby won't catch diseases through breast milk. So if both of you get sick, it's most likely that you both caught the same virus at the same time. It's just that your baby started showing symptoms before you do. Based on my own experience, as long as I keep breastfeeding my son, his illness did not get any worse than a few cough here and there. As said above, this is because he was transferring his virus when nursing, so that my body made the antibodies to fight his illness, and he'd get this antibodies the next time he fed. (Even MY symptoms were WORSE than him, it's so unfair... lol) But if you're concerned, give the ped a call, that's what they're there for anyway. Get well soon!
