| Dachshund will Skin/ grass allergies?
I have a 4yr old dachshund and he gets bad allergic reaction to what we conclude to be from grass, pollen, weeds, etc. It will kinda come and go mostly in spring and summer. His food does not seem to be the problem, b/c he tends to eat the same food all the time. Also when I send him outside wearing a t- shirt, the irritation on his belly improves. the spot that are affected are always his chest, belly, paw pads, eyes, and the sides of his head. Also some times he'll get a little spot on his shoulder. The spot on his shoulder basically looks like someone spilled tree sap there because a little patch of his fur will be stuck to his skin. He is itchy But otherwise behaves normally and runs around and plays as usual. Also there will sometimes be a bump on his toes that are moist and peeling and some liquid will come out if touched .We have asked the vet about it before and she said it was most likely a grass allergy. Does anyone know a good treatment, solution, or preventative for this?

If you are not treating your grass area it may be coming from neighbors..Or he has pollen allegies. Itching can be treated with childrens Benadril. Avoid harsh shampoo, use very little or use baby shampoo. Rince well. If he is lossing hair he may need nutrtional boost,,,Boiled egg, cheese small amount(constipating) peanut butter, Vit C,garlic powder,, seperatly or mix with other food. Dogs can also eat mollases and honey. Some home made biscuits have it in ingrediants. Also boiled liver. whole wheat flour and oats. You can use neosporin on small sores. The toe thing almost sounds like ant sting, the tiny mean ones. Wipe dog off when it comes back in house and discard towel to be washed. It may even be form of ivy. POOR thing I love dachounds. good luck *mamatx

I have a Dachshund mix who also has horrible allergies on and off. My vet gave me a shampoo that helps with the oils that the rashes make and told me to give him a benadril twice a day while his allergies are bothering him. If your dog is a normal sized dachshund you probably should use only half a benadril twice a day because my dog is about 30 pounds. Much bigger than his dachshund mom. The benadril really seemed to work for a few years but it doesn't have the same results anymore.
