Terrible allergies: Any one been to an allergist?

I made an appointment for the Allergist/ Has nayone ever been to one? What do they do? Hopefully, he can test me and find a cure. I have felt bad for a few days now and it's getting worst.

This may not be the same, but my dad has and he said they took a bunch of little needles with stuff like pollen and stuff like that and you would get a reaction if you were allergic.

I may be wrong, but I may not. xD

My daughter goes regularly. They can test you for pretty much anything. My 2 1/2 yro has been tested for @300 substances. Foods, dust, dyes, wood grains, etc. They can do a prick test (most common), RAST, patch, or intraldermal. If you have a suspicion of a particular allergen, it helps. Otherwise you can spend hundreds of dollars doing different tests.
For my daughter's tests, she had to be off of antihistamines and any steroid creams/ointments for 5 days to get a positive reading. If you are hoping to get tested on your 1st appt, call the doctors office and see what restrictions they have as far as steroids and/or antihistamines. More than likely your 1st appt will be history and what you think my be causing your allergies. Here's a website that I like. http://www.aaaai.org/patients/publicedmat/tips/whatisallergytesting.stm
