Allergies and hives?

Can seasonal allergies cause hives? The pollen's been insanely high in my area, and I broke out in hives on my chest and arms-which has never happened before. It may be from my fabric softener, but I've never had a skin reaction to anything. Just curious if allergies could cause it. Thanks!
As of right now, I have no food allergies (I am 26). My brother and daughter do though.
Nope, not poison ivy (I'm surprisingly insensitive to it). I have been gardening, but it had been several days since I had when the hives came. I'm hoping it isn't a new food allergy, that would be upsetting.

Yes, it's possible, food allergies could also cause hives.

Yes I'm sure it can. Have you taken any new prescription drugs lately? That also can cause it. Also - make sure you didn't come in contact with poison ivy - usually if you have allergies - your skin is more sensitive. My son had poison ivy once and now his legs are extra sensitive to cold and heat.

Yes seasonal allergies can definitely cause hives. I know people who get hives just from fesh cut grass. So you could have touched or breathed something that your body didn't like!

Could it have been a bug bite?

Fabric softener can do it too. You can also develope allergies to things over time that you were never allergic too before.

Definitely take benedryl, and call your doctor immediately if your throat feels tight or you have any trouble breathing. Otherwise benedryl should do the trick.

If it is really uncomfortable, you can take a bath in oatmeal. Or baking soda. You can also make a paste out of baking soda and water and that helps cool the itch!
