Prednisone and penicillin allergy?

I've heard that prednisone has a derivative of penicillin. Is this true? And if so, what is the active ingredient listed for prednisone that ties it with penicillin? I'm wondering because, I am allergic to penicillin. Last week, I had an allergic reaction to something (still unknown) and was given prednisone, and my symptoms continued to get worse until I stopped taking it.

I am very allergic to penicillin and have taken prednisone on many many occasions to control my severe asthma. What kind of reaction did you have that they gave you prednisone for, and that continued after taking it? Prednisone is a powerful steroid, and it gives me acne sometimes that looks like a rash (like on my upper arms and shoulders) but that goes away after I stop taking it. So, if your reaction was a rash, the prednisone probably didn't make it worse but may have given you acne like I get. Your doctor would not prescibe anything related to penicillin since you are allergic, and even if they did by accident, the pharmacy should catch it. So, it is unlikely that you are allergic to predinsone, but it is a very strong drug and does have some side effects that kind of suck. I hope this helps a little bit.

I am allergic to Penicillin, but I don't think I'm allergic to prednisone.... I try not to let anyone put me on it thought because I hate that stuff. I don't know if they are related, but you can do a search and that should pull something up.

With me, Prednisone always aggravates everything else going on. I get really bad acid reflux, stomach pain, and my asthma goes wacko. It could have just aggravated your bodies all ready raging response to the prior allergen.

Be sure to tell all your doctors about this so that they can assess what happened and hopefully never put you on either again.
