Allergy testing (back)?

My daughter had a blood test ( the RAST test) when she was 6 months old and it was determined that she has a severe milk allergy and a moderate egg white allergy. She is scheduled to see an allergy specialist in 2 weeks. I thought he was just going to tell us what she could/couldn't eat, what to do and expect. But the nurse told me that they were going to repeat the RAST test and do that back test. I vaguely know what the test is, but I am unsure exactly what goes on. Are they going to give her something to ease her pain? How many times are they going to poke her back? She is only ten months old, I cry just thinking about her having to go through this. Has anyone here had a child go through this? If so, what all happens..... Does anyone know the proper name of the test so I can research it??

Just pull up on a search engine allergy prick test, you should get many web sites to research. I had a prick test done and it was not very painful. The nurse will inject a little bubble of an allergy solution just under the skin. There is usually little blood. It may sting a bit like an ant bite. Babies usually do OK with this usually much better than adults. Many food allergies can not be done through a simple blood test so that is why they do this. Your Baby will do fine, I'm sure you will feel it more than her if you know what I mean. Good Luck

follow the advice of the allergist. direct all questions to the doctor BEFORE the procedure. ask if there is a parent support group in your area -if not, start one. go to FAAN online.
