Citric Acid Allergy or Sensitivity?

My son is just shy of 5 months old (4 months 25 days). Our pediatrician told us that we could start trying solids. So for the first week we gave him cereal and my milk. He did wonderfully, messes and all. Second week we did sweet potatoes, he loved him. We go to try bananas (the jarred beechwood or whatever that brand is)and as soon as we give him one little spoonful not only does he look like what the heck is this he breaks out in a rash on both sides of his face. Needless to say we do not continue the bananas. The next day we try peaches. He does the same thing. We looked at the labels on both and they have citric acid. So could our little boy have a citric acid allergy or is it just a sensitivity? I know I was and I might still be allergic to molds when I got tested but then again that was a while ago.
